The Silk Butterfly - Alingsås
During the 18th century, Alingsås was an important industrial town, and one of the most prominent activities was textile production, including silk. Based on this history, Alingsås Municipality has requested help to design a playground with the theme of silk production to highlight local history.
Elverdal has designed a playground that illustrates the entire silk production cycle, from the egg that becomes a larva, which forms a cocoon, to the final silk threads.
Here are some of the play elements:
Silk Butterfly:
A large climbing structure with nets, climbing grips, tunnels, and a slide, creating a striking and unique expression.
Silk Larva:
A larva you can climb inside and outside of. Cocoon: Balance and climbing equipment shaped like cocoon nests.
Mulberry:
Represents the food of the silk larva, crafted as sculptural balance elements on the playground.
Silk Thread:
Spools and rollers designed as motor skill courses.
Visit the playground in Alingsås and experience how the history of silk becomes exciting play for children of all ages.
