Randers Regnskov

Randers Rainforest has introduced a sensory and educational discovery trail in a forested area surrounding an existing drainage channel. The site is characterized by dramatic changes in water levels and a natural wildness, offering unique opportunities for nature experiences and learning.

The trail has been constructed with respect for the natural surroundings, alternating between sturdy boardwalks and more challenging sections made of stepping stones and tree stumps. The vegetation has been carefully thinned to preserve significant trees while opening up the landscape to highlight its natural qualities. Along the trail, small “niches” are created on the forest floor – themed resting areas with topics such as “Life by the Water,” “Place of Offering,” and “Wildlife.” Each niche forms an atmospheric space in nature and includes small exhibit elements designed and installed by Randers Rainforest. These themes are currently provisional and may be refined as the project evolves.

The overall experience is envisioned as a journey through both nature and history – with a special focus on Iron Age people and their connection to the landscape. Visitors are invited to explore and sense the traces of the past beneath their feet in a living, untamed environment. As part of the project, Elverdal has also developed a unique playground in the shape of a prehistoric skeleton. Here, children can balance on large “bones” shaped like a spine, ribs, skull, and tusks – a playful and physical way to engage families in the story of ancient life and its creatures.
