Mariebergsparken - playground in historic park
Kirstinehamn Municipality wanted a new playground in the historic Mariebergsparken hospital park.
Elverdal created a design with a light and elegant appearance, where the materials, colours and shapes blend into the surrounding nature and with the wooden sun pavilions from the old Marieberg hospital.
Fun and exciting play between the hills
For the playground, we have chosen elements that appeal to community and cooperation, which offer challenging play opportunities across age groups.
The area has a landscaped, sculptural appearance and is appealingly located in the hills of the park. It is divided into several play areas, all of which offer multiple play values for both younger and older children.
The playground is an obvious excursion destination, where families and kindergartens can go for walks out into the park for a picnic, and children can play for longer.
Speed up play
The playground is a place discovered while on a walk in the park. It gives you the same experience as suddenly coming upon a cave in the forest, or an amazing
climbing tree. Who doesn't want to climb up to look out over the land from the 'treehouse' up high?
Children can either climb the long climbing wall with grips, or the curved ladder, which doubles as a slide for the way back down.
Around the play tower is a balancing track, so more children can play together at the same time. Here, children can practice their balance and coordination skills on balance ropes, sloped climbing nets, undulating ladders and roller beams. The movements train muscle strength and motor skills and can challenge the slightly older children, as all the balance elements either move or slope.
The play areas are surrounded by hills that create shelter and a sense of security, as well as the opportunity for longer play and to be close to the play area. If you run up the hill, you can take a quick ride down the slide again.
Or you can fly along the zip wire or swing to the clouds on the giraffe swing!
Quiet play areas for the little ones
For younger children, the playground has a quiet corner with a sandy area where the children can immerse themselves in their own games.
For the little ones, the giraffe swing is a great sensory swing for lying on, spinning around on, or for just rocking gently back and forth on. This strengthens the vestibular sense, which is important for developing the sense of space and balance.
Specially designed play tower
The play tower is a custom design of an Olivia play tower with roof and fisheye window teamed with a selection of obstacle course elements that form the balance track.
At Elverdal, we are specialists in designing modular play towers and climbing systems. Check out our many designs for inspiration. You can also play with the design yourself in the 3D Builderdesign tool.
