Femte Juni Plads - a playground inspired by the surrounding environment

The train is about to depart, hop on board and join us for the journey…
For Femte Juni Plads, Elverdal created a themed playground inspired by the surroundings – the S-train, which runs close by, and the surrounding beautiful green park. It was important that the new playground was fun for both younger and older children to play in, and that the space could serve as an excursion destination for families and nurseries.

The train theme is repeated throughout the play equipment, and a wide viewing platform facing the S train track creates a place to gather, observe and
immerse yourself, wave to the train and come up with stories about people travelling by train.

    The area's many options

The specially designed 'flying train track' with climbing towers, bridges, lianas, a high slide and climbing track challenges older children to balance, coordinate and develop their muscle strength.

A hilly play area with the S-train network drawn into the rubber surface provides space for hopscotch, playing ball or just hanging out and watching the other children play.

The train station, train carriages and balancing track provide the smaller children with a mini-universe for role-play under the park's trees. From the front carriage, the children can talk through the loudspeaker to the busy construction site in the sand pit, where they can take turns digging with the sand digger and sifting the sand to the finest dust through the tilting sieve.

    Concept

Elverdal's design of the playground for Femte Juni Plads is based on a story about the S-train line. We have given the classic toy train a new dimension by allowing it to meander upwards, and we have combined the train with other play equipment to create a climbing course that can challenge older children’s motor skills. For younger children, a station theme encourages them to go on a journey of discovery with the train, playing at being a train driver and other roles. The station theme consists of playhouses and crooked balance tracks made of wooden trunks, stumps and station beams.

'Looking at trains' is often a hit with nursery children, and the playground has been given a wide wooden platform with windows facing the train track, where the children can run and wave at the trains.

The playground is designed to provide space for various play activities and is divided into oases with wooden barriers in between to contain falling sand and
    provide less maintenance.
