Bad Segeberg
In collaboration with Landschaftsarchitektur Planung und Moderation in Hamburg, Elverdal has developed an inclusive play universe in Bad Segeberg.
The concept was created in close dialogue with the local children, who were involved from the very beginning as key decision-makers. Based on this process, the themes of knights and castles, as well as dragons and magic, emerged to form the narrative framework of the playground.
Elverdal looks forward to realising more projects of this kind and continuing to contribute to playgrounds where children’s imagination, sense of community, and dreams can unfold freely.
Accessibility
By further developing and adapting standard products – for example a wheelchair-accessible playhouse that enables children with reduced mobility to fully participate in sand play, and a dragon figure that can both be climbed on and accessed by wheelchair – we have created a cohesive and magical universe. The story of the dragon threatening the castle, and the possibility to sound the alarm from the tower, immediately sparked great enthusiasm among the children.
Play for all
As the project emphasises inclusion and accessibility, most of the play environments – including the castle courtyard – are designed at ground level with a strong focus on universal access. The combination of easily accessible entrances, sensory sound elements, imagination-stimulating details, and opportunities to climb, slide and swing provides all children with rich possibilities to explore and engage.
