Røyneberg Barnehage

Røyneberg Kindergarten is a well-considered and functional childcare environment, both indoors and outdoors. After five years of planning, children and staff have been provided with facilities that are highly adapted to their everyday needs.

By utilising the natural level changes of the terrain, children’s motor development is supported, while also offering strong opportunities for role play, which is essential at this stage of childhood.

Clear and recognisable elements, such as an aeroplane, are integrated into the playground and become a natural part of the children’s play. Given the kindergarten’s proximity to an airport, this theme is particularly relevant.

A large covered play area allows for outdoor play even during periods of heavy rainfall or snow. In addition, well-designed sand and water play facilities support key forms of play for children in this age group.

The kindergarten is designed to accommodate approximately 170 children, and the Y-shaped building with outdoor spaces surrounding it ensures generous space and varied play environments. The playground is divided into three zones:

Zone A

This zone offers a balanced mix of motor challenges and role play. Level changes, climbing equipment and seesaws enhance balance and coordination, while playhouses and slides support social play and imagination.

Zone B

This zone focuses on sensory and themed play. Sand and water play stimulate creativity and fine motor skills, while the aeroplane and nest swing invite shared role play and physical activity.

Zone C

This zone brings together more complex play equipment that challenges children both physically and socially. Play towers, slides and playhouses provide opportunities for active play, immersion and play across age groups.
